Intolleranza 60. Happening, 28 gennaio 2011, h 19:00. Piazza del Francia, Bologna
On January 28, 2011, at 7 pm, Luigi Nono’s work Intolleranza 1960 was broadcast live on radio from the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. This was the second staging of the opera in Italy after 50 years from the first and only controversial performance.

As a starting point, I imagined every car parked along a street or in a square with their windows slightly open, tuned in to the same radio station in a specific moment, for instance during a live concert happening in another city of another continent. Like this you will have, at no costs, a very astonishing event in that place…
The happening wants to take advantage of the large and chaotic presence of cars in big urban centers, to create a collective action e in a completely different way.
The work aims to bring a particular or epochal event into the street, opening it up to collective participation. Everyone is invited to be there and participate in the event by simply tuning his car radio to the same station in the place chosen for the event and enjoy the music. This work needs to be properly prepared for the context where it will be taking place, to involve directly the inhabitants and the various activities of the neighborhood, building day by day the expectation and encouraging an active participation. Each “happening” is named after the radio show that would be broadcast on that occasion.

2010-11. Libretto.
April 13, 1961. At the premiere of Luigi Nono’s Intolerance 1960 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, a group of fascist sympathizers interrupts the performance of the work. It seems a teacher at the conservatory in Venice whose musical and political idea differed from those of the more famous composer was behind the protest. The booklet contains the complete transcription of all verbal exchanges, the altercations, whistles, applause, which interrupt verses sung to the libretto, and tries to reconstruct all the phases of the evening.
